Backswing in the wrong place. Google Jim Waldron swing illusion. Old dude in some really old YouTube videos. Watch them ten times, and stop not believing what he is showing you. 😎 You watch a swing and it looks like they pull their left arm to the right across their body, and then push it back across their body in the downswing. This is an illusion. Independent of body rotation or movement, your left arm pushes …

[preview.redd.it] You’ll make a fortune in real estate with flips like this. Look at Rory’s swing. In this frame of the swing he’s in almost an opposite position to where you are - his hands are still ahead of the club head pulling it through the ball and remain ahead after impact. ▶ this video

That's right. Watch Rory here and you can see the weight shift happen before he completes the backswing. When you actually start shifting weight and opening hips will depend on your sequencing and how quickly you can get your hips to clear before your club progresses down. For me, I realized I had to start earlier otherwise I will get stuck and early extend. ▶ this video

Watch Rory right when he starts the downswing. ▶ this video this will allow the club to drag behind you and fix it from steepening

Rory is transferring weight, notice his front leg here and where his belt buckle is pointed at impact and compare that motion to what you’re doing, just look at the lower body here. Fast forward to like 1.3 minutes in and check it out in super slow motion. Sliding like you do is what causes thin shots ▶ this video

Use your original ball position. Put the ball 6 inches in front of your original ball position. Now practice 3/4 swings hitting it. You have to get to your lead side to do this. 80% of your weight on front foot at impact. Watch this slo mo video of rory. Watch how at the top he bumps and sits into his front hip to move his weight to his front foot. Obviously, copy rory’s setup, stance, swing sequence, etc. to the …

▶ this video This link is a slow motion of rory. When you watch it, look at how long he keeps his shoulders at 90. He is keeping them there through his lateral shift and a bit of hip unwinding. This is what my coach has me working on now. By doing this he allows for his hips to make space. Also he is creating a tension in his core, which should give more power

Try working in your balance and holding your finish with good balance for a count of two seconds. One——two. Say it in your head. Analyze this and try to copy it in the mirror at home Watch how his arms are moving in the back swing and pause it at the top. Copy that position and posture at the top of the backswing. And hold it. Look in the mirror as you do this. Feel it. Look at his posture— copy it. The. Do the same …

Another quick thing that just popped into my mind is swing symmetry. Skip to 1:43 in ▶ this video During his backswing, his left arm is straight, but his right arm is just slightly bent. He's not taking the club around his body, he's moving it away from the target. The tracing drill I described above should help train how to get to this position, but it can quickly get lost when you go back to your normal stock …

You have a driver swing with your irons. You're sweeping at the ball and leaning back at impact. You can still make a divot in front of the ball doing that but you won't compress the ball. If you record your swing face on rather than down the line, you'll see it. With irons you have to get "on top" or "cover the ball" with your body. Watch how Rory gets on top of the ball rather than leaning ball to elevate it. ▶ …
