Just to let you off the hook, ▶ this video. Some people just don't take divots to the same extent as others. Out of curiosity, where do you look when you address the ball? I've started looking at the front edge of the ball, which has helped with my contact a bit.

▶ this video Generally, you want the fifth groove on the club to hit the just above the equator on the ball to get the optimal spin. With the scoring clubs this requires a descending blow and turf interaction which the clubhead is designed for. So, with 8 9 and wedges if you aren't taking a dollar bill sized divot, you are likely hitting it thin.
