I think the biggest thing that helped me with swinging on plane was a consistent takeaway that is on plane and club head is pointed at the ball. If your takeaway is inside then more than likely your downswing will be OTT and you'll slice across the ball. ▶ this video Follow the link for takeaway tips. You are correct. Your back swing club head is almost off the camera view but your downswing the club head is totally in view I would first try to reduce that deep inside take away- draw a line from behind the ball that points to the target - now on your take away - the best you can - let the club head face follow that line until about 45 degrees and then let your shaft get to your parallel point.
