I watched this chipping masterclass with Phil Mickelson a few days ago and this has been the best video I've found to go over chipping. I took the tips from this video to the practice greens and just started holing in chips and getting them within a couple feet like never before. For whatever reason how he went over stuff here REALLY clicked with me, hopefully it can help you. ▶ this video

Chipping: I made enormous improvements spending a few hours watching every Pete Cowan and Phil Mikelson chipping video on YT. Phil has a full hour on chipping. ▶ this video The prerequisite is Phil's "chipping 101" on someone else's channel. Some will stay that Phil's "hinge and hold" is difficult and requires too much elite level finesse. I've found it easy though. The Joe Mayo steep angle of attack method is the …

Here's Phil giving a short game lesson where he talks about how if you are setup correctly you can swing just with your lead arm. I feel like a lot of swing issues stem from the trail hand being too active either in the takeaway or the downswing. This is part of what make the game so frustrating is the majority of us are right-handed and the right hand naturally wants to take over. ▶ this video

u/MathiasThomasII 2025 · r/golftips · in “SHORT GAME chips and pitches….some instructors say you need forward shaft lean with a steeper angle of attack,”
Depends on the type of shot. A steeper angle of attack will generate a higher, softer ball with more spin. A shallower angle of attack and a neutral shaft will produce a lower ball. Think of it like this for the pros at least. The steep angle is the high ball that spins way back and the shallower swing produces that bounce, bounce, stop ball. Weight forward with a forward shaft lean is going to be WAY easier to make …
